Sami Ben Larbi is a Berlin-based artist whose installation work centers on classic and recent films, which he sees as a site of collective memory and a unifying element across cultures. Re-enacting scenes from movies that shape the language of cinema, he questions the boundary between film, time, and architecture. Ben Larbi recently participated in a residency at Homebase V (Berlin), and had solo exhibitions at Oberhafen kantine (Berlin) and Taet (Berlin).

Sami Ben Larbi, La distinction entre un Carthaginois et un Hexadecagone, au subjonctif (installation view), 2007-08, wood, steel, video projection, computers, motors, and plastic, 14’ x 14’ x 7’.

Founded by artists in 1928, SculptureCenter is a not-for-profit arts institution located in Long Island City, NY. We commission new work and present exhibits by emerging and established artists from New York and around the world. Our Tumblr site focuses on emerging artists and work that offers new ways of considering sculpture, or furthers the understanding of the discipline and how it can intersect with other mediums. Content is selected by SculptureCenter’s curatorial staff and guest curators.
